Td5 Defender immobiliser stuff
Some one tell me what I am missing. Apart from a 300Tdi.
Acquired the Td5 in the spring. Not surprisingly it had 1 key and 1 press button thingy which I assumed was some form of immobiliser. Never used apart from when I sit on it. FFS, its a Land Rover not the space shuttle.
Today I got round to getting a new key. Just in case. Bloody thing doesn't work. Eventually accidental trial and error shows that I need the fob by the ignition. More FFS. I'll glue it there. The whole idea is not to have it on the key.
Is there anyway of just immobilising the immobiliser? The buttons press themselves if I sit on it I have found that there all sorts of witches incantations needed to do a battery etc and also codes of some sort if things go tits up. Now where would that be? On some card that gets lost over 20 years I bet.
I would assume that a new immobiliser isn't one that I get by just quoting the reg number or chassis number to a LR dealer.
Yes I know I should have followed my instinct and bought a Tdi . I was spoiled by my 2.8 Isuzu engined 110.

There's a transponder in the remote fob that turns the immobiliser off, as you've found out...

If you know someone with a nanocom it's fairly easy to turn the immobiliser off.. Whereabouts in Glos are you?

If you were a bit closer I could have done it for you - hopefully there will be someone closer who can help Smile
