Not wanting to start :-(
Thursday this week the Landy started first turn of the key after being asleep for a week or so.

Saturday morning, again started first turn of the key. During Saturday while sat around between recoveries at Oulton Park I noticed sometimes the car would crank for longer than normal and then start and other times, it was on the button.

Drove home OK and then this morning came to start the car and click.. Nothing. No crank.
Good voltage at the starter and solenoid clicks. But no start.

I did try taping the solenoid but no joy.

Stuck solenoid?

Rebuild kits are available but in my experience, they don't seem to last long... Sad 1999 Defender TD5 110

Burned contacts can cause that. You can buy replacements and change yourself. Of course can also be that the motor has packed up, but the contacts are a common fault. Typically however you get a few false starts before they completely let go

In my experience they get sticky first so a few goes of the key and it will eventually go, but I’m sure they can suddenly completely fail.
