TD5 Crank sensor issue
I have a TD5 with MT82 gearbox, the CPS has been changed to a Puma 2.4 and wired properly. We also upgraded the wire from the CPS to the ECU to one from Pace4x4. I made the mistake of moving the CPS mount. We have tried full advance, and full retard on the placement. We also tried fabricating a centre pin so the mount is dead centre at TDC. Same codes, High crank speed and Noisy crank signal. We have tried three new CPS, and each gave the same ecu codes. For two full days we have been tryin to get it to start. I shimmed the spacer from 0.20mm up to 3.0mm and its all the same in the centred position.

We cut the power to the batt, removed the inj harness, crank and then connecting inj harness, then crank again it will start, shutters, and stops.

We got it to idle once, but any input from the accel pedal triggered high crank speed and it stops. We have not been able to replicate this.

I dont have insurance, but I have a jerry can full of gasoline and a match. And settin this girl a blaze is seemin more sane with every issue I keep running into.

Any ideas? Can't leave well enough alone

Sorry to hear of your trouble. Can you old explain if you have a Td5 why are you not using the Td5 CPS? Are you sure using a Puma CPS will give the correct signal for the Td5 ECU?

What is it you are trying to achieve fitting the MT82

Thank you for your reply

I swapped to the Mt82 from the R380 as I had better gearing for the stop and go traffic and gained better cruising. I have a 130, Hicap Pickup, and when loaded I had issues in stop and go traffic as first was too fast, and fifth was not made to cruise at 120kph. Currently I run just like the newer 2007-16 Defenders in respect to cruising rpm, but the benefit of a slightly more powerful engine. Oh and my TC is 1.2 with the quiet gears vs the 1.4 noisy set

I had to swap from the TD5 CPS to the Puma 2.4, as the R380 bellhousing houses the sensor. And on the Puma 2.4 its attached to the gearbox adapter.

It all worked before, just after my last engine rebuild did I start to have issues. Can't leave well enough alone

Try another engine ECU, just to be sure, the problem is on there. Take an oscilloscope and look on the CPS signal.
I have repaired some TD5 ECUs with broken componnents on the CPS input, the were working, but were susceptible on the CPS signal output voltage - they have "tolerated" only the righ voltage, compared to fully working ECU, that can accept large voltage variations. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "BlufĂnek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile
