England 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Zermatt Silver
35x12 MT balance
Hi All,

Is it at all possible to balance completing 35x12 mud terrains (cooper stt pro).

I have had them balance 5/6 times over last 2/3 years and 2 months down the line they have a wobble at different speeds.

Balance beads have been mentioned. Yet every garage I’ve spoken to have always steered me away from them with no real answers?

On top of the extra strain from the size of wheel tyre combo I believe the balancing is also making me throw bearings out continuously.

Any help, ideas, advise would be appreciated!

Tyre shops just don’t like dealing with beads, they take more time, the dust and mess. Etc.
To be honest a lot of them I think don’t like Defenders, too heavy work. Rolling Eyes
Commercial or 4x4 specialists I think are more in tune with handling them.

You can use Dynabeads fitted via valve stem if you wanted to, weight and qty is on a chart on their site.
I have weights on and Dynabeads in mine, no issues at all, they especially come into their own at higher speeds on MT’s.

Would I fit beads again?, probably not, unless I had an issue, but they will solve a minor imbalance at speeds over 30mph.
Imbalance can happen over time, at low speeds they can give a bit more wobble off road, possibly use a bit more fuel too, but they do dynamically balance.

In your situation, I’d go for it and fit the valve stem application type.
With this type, the tyre bead doesn't need to be broken, just aired down, centre valve out, beads put in and then air up again.
Compressor wise, have a good one ready, if you have a low capacity one then it might take time as there is a lot of air obviously due to the size.

Hope that might help, and be useful info to you. Thumbs Up ____\We|Will|Win/___
