Puma central locking partly working
Hello, thanks in advance for your reply,

2011 puma, original central locking only works when standing right beside the driver (LHD) side, and sometimes requires firm push of the button and or multiple attempts.

Keyfob battery is new and good, could it be the module ? if it is, is it this one- YWC500660

Obviously, would like to hear if it could be something else before replacing it

thank you!

A couple of questions

Has this always been the case, or is it a recent development ?

Does this happen in all locations ? EMC interfering with radio signals can cause issues in certain locations

I’m assuming you only have one fob, is that correct ?

Obviously if you have a second fob you can use that and if all is ok with that one then You know it’s the first fob at fault or the new battery’s bad.

If you don’t have a second fob then it’s a good time to get one, program it to the 10AS, and keep as a spare in case your current one gets damaged or is lost, someone like remotekey or Technozen sell and program new fobs.

If the new fob works ok then you know the current one is faulty or new battery is.

Alternatively

The 10AS antenna may have a problem, this is a white wire from the 10AS that on earlier Puma’s dangled from the 10AS or ran towards the right hand side windscreen pillar. On later Puma’s it was extended so it goes behind the radio. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic87569...white+wire

Note this can be extended to give better reception. http://defender90xs.blogspot.com/2014/11/r...nsion.html

If you test the antenna wire between its pin on the 10AS connector and its end and it’s ok, I would check the 10AS connector and remove the 10AS ( on a RHD it’s behind the drivers footwell speaker) to inspect it for water damage / corrosion on the connector pins.

If after checking wires and connectors and you are sure it's not the fob you can send the 10AS to Technozen to get them to test and if required fix the unit, while with them they can provide and program a second fob if you wanted. Note your vehicle won’t start without the 10AS unit. So you won’t be able to use it until you get your 10AS back.

You could buy a second hand 10AS and program it with a diagnostic tool such as a Nanocom, however the one you quoted (YWC500660) is a basic one without the central locking relays and thermistor. So you need to get the correct one.

good morning,

Thank you for your thorough step by step reply!

It wasn't the case for goods, I got the car for 5 years now and it worked perfect until few months ago.

it happens in all locations, I do aware some locations can be tricky for the frequency, such as near electric substation\high power lines

About the fob, now that you mention it, I dot remember switching between the 2 when I got the truck, as one wasn't working (I think it was the new one which didn't work so I just used its case with the old inner part) so I will definitely check it again

Thanks, I will follow the antenna checking in the pillar and thanks for noting about the wrong part number do you have the correct one ?

the car won't start because 10AS also contain the immobiliser I assume?

thanks!

See this link for part numbers, item 1 Control unit burglar alarm, look at your current one to see frequency of fob to get correct 10AS part, also one with central door locking capabilities.

As you state, removing the 10AS means it cannot read the fob or send a de immobilise code to the engine ECU and therefore the engine will not start with the 10AS removed unless the immobilise function has been mapped out of the ECU by a company such as bell auto services who provide mapping services.

Long shot, but beware of water around the AS10 and its connector, it has been known before to get there from an external leak.

Unlikely but possible, and that’ll send it haywire.

There could be the antenna range mod that was done, and that connection extension has detached hence you have noticed a difference in range, again might be unlikely, but possible.

Finally, it can be that the new fob battery, maybe new to you, but it might be half flat or low on voltage out of the packet.
It does happen, there are fakes, out of date batteries and ones sent out that are old and at about 50% capacity out of the packet.

Multimeter DMM voltage test can tell you that, also don’t forget to ensure the fob is synced with the AS10 if you’ve changed the battery in it following that procedure, I expect you have but all, the sand worth mentioning ____\We|Will|Win/___
