Injector pump timing with DTI and EGR
Having succesfully solved the oil leak into the timing belt housing I'm working through optimising other adjustable bits on my 300TDi to perk it up a bit.

The next job is to check the injector pump timing using a DTI - two lift values are given, one for EGR (lower) and one without. Mine is an EGR engine but with the EGR blanked off. Presumably the lower setting is to reduce the maximum fuelling to help with the emissions.

Has anyone set an EGR engine up using the non-EGR lift value?

Cheers!

I use a setting of 1.6mm for the timing, as opposed to the 1.54 or 1.4. I think, as it's a UK 300tdi and using the pins to set it it goes (or did before the FIP rebuild) to 1.4 ish, it had EGR. It seems to run a little better with a bit more advance than the 1.4, and it has been like that for years with no issues. I suggest to try to get tight fitting pins for the timing, you can see a slight waggle makes a difference on the DTI. You can lock the pump at the desired lift position, and having pulled the pulley off, reset it at your chosen advance position, then unlock the pump, or probably best initially just adjust the FIP pulley with the 3 bolts (a bit fiddly but very doable with minimal disturbance and easily reversible).

Thank you, thought I'd seen another measurement somewhere besides 1.4 and 1.54.
