Providing the triangular exhaust bolts aren’t seized it’s not too bad a job, I found the trickiest bit aligning oil return gasket and bolts.
I used the nakatanenga gasket and Holts fire gum exhaust paste which worked a treat. Fit new nuts and bolts too. 2023 Defender L663 V8 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 (gone) 2010 110 XS Utility 2.4TDCI 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 (gone) 2007 Discovery HSE TDV6 (gone) 1993 110 csw 200 tdi (gone) 1994 90 HT 300 tdi (gone) 1994 discovery 300tdi (gone) 90 hybrid 3.5 v8 (gone) Range rover bobtail 3.5 v8 (gone) |

No need to remove the AC compressor.
You will find it straight forward as a person of above average mechanical ability Remove flexible air pipework, remove exhaust studs/nuts from both flanges, remove oil feed and drain. Turbo will come out. If I remember correctly there might be a bracket on the exhaust manifold that needs to come off. Some of the studs/nuts will be dry/rusty on the exhaust - get the penetrating fluid on them! Swap the plastic elbow over to the new turbo then refit. When I fitted my replacement I could not get the oil return fitted to the underside of the turbo in situ. Instead found it easier to disconnect the drain from the block, fit the drain to the turbo and install in one lump. ![]() Click image to enlarge > 110 XS Double Cab |

Thanks heaps guys,
Some good tips there already, especially the one about fitting the oil return to the turbo first, I probably wouldn’t have done that and would be swearing away. Will be interesting to see how it goes. Should I change the oil return pipe AND the oil feed pipe as well for new ones or will this make the job too difficult? Engine was a drop in replacement from the UK a couple of years ago and is pretty fresh as the vehicle is hardly used. The current turbo works but is sticking and throwing it into limp mode after a while. |

IIRC I did not have to remove the A/C compressor. Puma 110" SW

I didn't replace the oil feed or drain for new, just re-used existing. Two years later all fine
