United Kingdom 1988 Defender 90 V8 Petrol HT Bonatti Grey
[For Sale] Land Rover Khyam Tent
Land Rover branded tent produced by Khyam for LR many, many years ago.

Good points -

* I bought this tent well over 10 years ago now and it has been well-enjoyed in that time
* An attractive item out of the LR Accessories catalogue
* Versatile, with many different configurations - photos show these
* A standard height 90 rear door can be opened directly into the tent with the vehicle hatch removed, allowing it to be used as an extension of the vehicle - this is why it's been so useful to me
* Comes with a connecting peice that I believe is intended for a Range Rover, looks practically brand new
* Lightweight and extremely easy to put up - if it took more than 60 seconds to have up and peg out the base, you'd be having a bad day
* It comes with pegs and a repair kit including a spare pole joint
* The whole bag with all accessories comfortably fits within the loadspace of a 90, either longitudinally or across the rear bulkhead.

Bad points -

* I bought this tent well over 10 years ago now and it has been well-enjoyed in that time......
* This is not your next expedition tent, think of it as a light duty tent for summer camping, shows, car boots, garden gazebo, etc. It is not going to be a storm-force tent and heavy rain will start to make its way through the seams
* It must have once been put away damp because it has at some point had mould, but one of the first things I did was clean it out with mold-killer and reproof it so this is just an appearance issue
* At some point someone has applied an adhesive label to one of the windows, the remanents of which now state "HYE". I believe a good scrub with some alcohol and a rough sponge would see it off, I never had enough of a problem with it to risk clouding the window
* I have spent time looking after the tent, which involved seam sealing, waterproofing and sealing anywhere the fabric weave looked like it might open up. You can see this in the photos.

A new one is about £300, but beware the word 'new', these tents went out of production a decade ago; fabric and plastics degrade no matter where you keep them. That said, you can find one here, which genuinely looks like a good deal:

Asking £150 for mine, noting its very used condition but happy to take offers. Collection is from J23 M5.

Absolutely brilliant bit of kit. Shame I sold mine, and I’m tempted to buy this

Great size, especially with the ability to stand up in it, with access to back door of Defender.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Looks an ideal size, I like the gazebo roll up side option or versatility as a tent. Cheers

You're exactly right, it was being able to get dressed stood up, fitting a proper-sized army style camp bed inside with room to spare and the extension to the car that meant it served me so well.

What needs to happen to upgrade that temptation? Laughing Offers accepted... One life - get one.
