Wiring tell-tale for Carling Switch
I have a Carling off-on switch for the rear work light. The light has a perm live feed and switched earth so I can switch it both from the rear and the front of the Defender.
My question is, how can I wire up the tell-tale on the carling switch to illuminate when the light is on?
Pins:
1. Power in
2. Power out
3. Jumper to 2 (lights tell-tale)
7. Earth
8. Sidelight
I am using 1 and 2 to switch the earth for the rear light. No power going to pin 3 hence no tell-tale.
Anyone know of a way around this? Thanks.

What I'd do is find a small relay, connect a permanent live to terminal 30 and also jump it to terminal 86, then connect terminal 87 to terminal 3 on your switch for the tell tale. Finally connect terminal 85 of your relay to the same terminal as the earth cable coming back from the light, let's say terminal 2. Finally connect terminal 1 of the switch to earth.
I am presuming you are also connecting the switch illumination to terminal 8 and terminal 7 to its own earth?
Don't forget fuses!
What that should do is put 12v to terminal 3 only when the switch is operated, because the switch is now providing an earth path to the light and also creates a circuit to energise the coil in the relay. Sorry about the diagram, best I could do quickly.
