2.2 excessive fuel consumption?
Hi all

A friend is running a 2014 2.2 90 CSW and asked me what fuel returns I get from my 2013. I normally get 400 - 425 miles on a full tank. I was suprised when he told me that he is only getting 250 - 275 miles per tank on his Puma.

He has just serviced it to try to improve things - full fluids (Engine, gearbox, diffs & transfer box) and all LR filters. Despite this his fuel consumption is still the same. No binding brakes and everything operating as it should. He even had the A/C regassed as he heard that this could affect fuel returns.

Should he be looking at anything else?

Jim

I found when I first purchased mine that trying to drive it like the more dailied Transporter it made a big difference in use / cruise speed….
Sitting at 70-75 then it struggled to get low 20’s mpg whereas sitting with the trucks at circa 60 it was more like 30mpg
Obviously lots of stop / start round the town type use again gives low 20’s……

As above, driving style can make a big difference.

But also restriction in the dpf or malfunctioning egr. Try to get an OBD and get some values, can compare. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Is your Puma a 110 rather than a 90? Big difference in fuel tank size.
On my Td5 90, I would get 325 miles to a tank with a light right foot.
On my 110 2.2, I easily get 440 driving in a similar style.

the milage sounds right for a 90, as its got a smaller tank
we get around 400mils per tank in both our 2.2 110’s

My Puma is also a 90, so the same size tank.

400 miles in a 90 is very impressive. Bow down

Could it be that you drive like an old lady? Rolling with laughter
