Hi,
I'm looking after second Hand New Defender L663 with Diesel Engine. I read a lot of complain about 2.0 Ingenium diesel which is not be reliable. Is it a common issue on this engine? because i have an interesting offer from JLR for a second hand 2.0 240 SE with 24 months guarantee but I'm afraid if after the guarantee period, the value of this Def' is zero due to this engine. Otherwise, I'm chasing a 3.0l 200hp in S version, but no option at all. Any thought from you about this two engines? Would you buy a second hand 2.0 engine? Thx for your input. |

I think the 2.0 is probably unfairly bashed a lot of the time.
If you think about it, the old Defender only had a 2.2 with 122bhp. And something like a p38 Range Rover or Discovery 2 only ever had a max power output of about 225hp from a 4.6 V8. So, 240hp from the new Defender with a 2.0 litre, is massively more powerful than many older models. However, for a £70-80k vehicle and people selling 4.4TDV8 Range Rover's and Sports for a new Defender. Which many did, likely felt short changed with what they previously had! There is no doubt that the 3.0 litre is likely a nicer engine. But the 2.0 actually went pretty well IMO. But depends what you are expecting from the vehicle and what you are using as a base line. |

The Defender D240 drives very well, and is more than adequate for most uses.
However the 2.0 lngenium has issues with the DPF in certain driving conditions so it would depend on the kind of use, as you say. l've got a friend with a 2020 Defender 110 with the 2.0 and he's very happy with it. but given the choice l would take the 3.0 as there are no real downsides. Plus the 3.0 diesel is so smooth/quiet, l've had people ask if it's electric. |

The Ingenium DPF problems were caused by the way it was installed on the Disco Sport (etc.) because it was located so far away from the exhaust manifold and had problems reaching the required temperature. On the Defender it is attached to the turbo/exhaust manifold so the same problems shouldn't arise. Current vehicle: 2020 Defender 110S
Gone: Defender 90 HT 200Tdi, Discovery Sport, Freelander 2 Insta: wizzardprang |
