Exhaust gas temperature sensor / Pyrometer
Hi everyone,

I'd like to install an exhaust gas temperature sensor in my TD5. The sensor itself is a Veratron ViewLine - 52mm Pyrometer 100-900°C by VDO.
The sensor will be installed in the EGR plate at the front of the exhaust manifold; I don't want to drill a hole in the manifold itself.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good sensor?
I've already browsed the forum, but the threads are all a bit older now, and a lot has probably changed...

Thank you

The VDO info shows a part number NN03-320-264 but it is pretty pricey!

I am curious as to why you would want to know this info and what you intend to do with it once you've reported it? If you have a spare hole for an additional gauge wouldn't oil pressure, voltage, amps or a tachometer would be more informative.

This is what i used with a K type thermocouple, I had the parts from another project and thought to give it a try. I mainly use it as a way of saving fuel as the lower the temp the less fuel is used its suprising how hot the exhaust gets on a steep hill climb, 700.c + and less that 100.c coasting down the other side.
After a long run and the turbo is very hot i always let the temps get below 200.c before switching the engine off preserving the turbo !
I have tuned td5 and i can get 35 mpg if i am really really careful lol.[/url]

@Penflod, thanks for the tip!
I've found the VDO part now, too; a decent price. Which makes it all the more interesting to ask whether there's a suitable alternative... Rolling Eyes

The (additional) gauge should be one of some more, like you mentioned. I just like the classic round gauges Smile
And maybe the TD5 has a bit more power, so certain values should be kept in mind.

@mark1200,
Yes, letting the turbo cool down is definitely a good idea!
