Well done that Man!! I wanted to retire my 2012 110 XS Station Wagon and pass it on to my Grandson.Having purchased a D250 110 I realised it would not be suitable for heavy towing ( I have a timber framing business and we regularly tow 3.5 tonnes ) and I have had experience towing with a 4.4 TdV8 Range Rover L322 - I broke it on a regular basis. Only one thing to do - buy a Grenadier. Six months in and 12,000 miles I love it.

Quite interesting your comment. What makes you say the Grenadier is better at towing?
I found the grenadier heavily underpowered with just the driver in. I tow as well heavy and fully loaded with my defender d250 mapped to d300 (cause it was underpowered at towing). The grenadier adding another 600kg of body weight not sure it can be better at towing.

Off topic for this thread but can l ask who did the remap on your D250, and how much difference did it make?

l tow a caravan with our D250 and don't find it underpowered at all, but more performance is always welcome.

Best upgrade of all. D300 unlock the full potential of the gearbox with torque up to 700nm.
Pulling away is a breeze, reversing a joy and fuel consumption remains the same.
As standard I felt the d250 was working hard through the gears and revs ( although not as much as the grenadier does) to keep up with traffic and towing uphill while the d300 uses more torque than power.
In this regard the grenadier has a better gearbox software when towing, it really uses all the torque till it can, without changing gear unless you want.

Thank you for the recommendations.

My Defender certainly doesn't use high RPM when towing the caravan, but l imagine if you were towing 3,500kg of wood on a trailer it might do.

The would be like towing three of our caravans at once!

I said it was more suitable - not better. Ladder chassis and coil springs in my experience stand up better to towing on a regular basis. My previous experience of using a TDV8 L322 Range Rover was not great. It was a fantastic engine and gearbox but the rest of the vehicle was not robust enough for constant, heavy towing - again this was my personal experience. I have no doubt our D250 110 would tow as well or better than the Grenadier but not on a regular basis in connection with my business - horses for courses.
