Big dave my 2004 td5 90
Hi everyone not long had my defender, its a 2004 TD5 county hard top Mr. Green I picked it up for £5000 knowing it needed a few minor jobs and its done a few miles (151000)

I brought it private off a vet and its got a great service history adding up to around £10k of reciepts, recently had a new clutch and wheel bearings!

First job i needed to do was to sort the oil leak from the steering box so i replaced the complete unit

A new windscreen as it had a crack in it, then put it through an MOT and it passed with flying colours!

I put some disco wheels on it that i got for a bargain off ebay but after fitting them im not happy with them as they look really small

So plans are...

Some 265 75 16s on black modulars
Safari snorkel
Terrafirma winch front bumper
Tidy a few dents up

Il mostly be using it everyday but will using it for greenlaning and pay and play days

Few pics...

Nice, although it's a county hard top not station wagon (unless you have tinted the windows white Laughing ).

That age of Td5 hardtop has got to be the most fun LR at the moment I reckon. New enough to be reliable, plenty of grunt and old enough not to care too much about panel damage.

A Truetrac in the front works fine for a road / laning car, Not as good as a ARB, but then it not a challenge truck !!
99% of FWD rally car will run a similar LSD up front California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Sounds like the alternator, you might be lucky and find its just the earth strap, but it sounds unlikely.... Be warned, they aren't a lot of fun to remove, easy enough job just a complete PITA!

Agreed, we've got a 1999TD5 we're doing up as a tracking / camera car and it's got quite a bit of poke off the line, trundles along the motorway at 70 quite easily (will do 93 downhill Very Happy ) and MPG is ok. Editor of FunRover - One blog. Read it!
