The 2.4 WSM says that the lines must be discarded and not reused, however most people seem to reuse the without problems being common. If the sealing olives become damaged they will leak and the line must be replaced. The tightening sequence for both ends of the lines in the WSM is stage one 5 Nm (4 lbf ft) stage two 35 Nm (26 lbf ft).
It's very hard to say on the basis of your photo what is leaking and where from or even if it is for certainl a fuel leak. I would suggest that you clean the contaminated area thoroughly and see if you can see the where the stain reappears from. |

Thanks. Now I also found the line in the WSM stating that the old ones should be discarded, I thought I had read all the warnings but missed this one.
![]() I will clean the area and try to detect where it starts from. The pipes are not cheap so replacing on chance is not attractive. I am fairly sure it is fuel that is leaking. The front end of the truck has a strange smell to it after extended drives. Also the fuel consumption is a bit all over the place. We just came back from a 4500 km holiday trip, the first half of it was at 12+ l/100 km, going back it was just a bit over 10 l/100 km until after the last fill up, then back at 12 or more. Could be many factors of course and not related to this leak. |

I put this problem on paus as fault tracing was without success and after clean up it remained fairly dry.
However, we have now returned from ~7000 km trip with a lot of full days of high way driving and it is now wet as before and the truck smells like warm diesel whenever we stop. It might even be diesel that is dropping from the gearbox cross-member, but further analysis is needed. It seems that the leak is small and do not manifest itself on shorter rides so I will adapt my fault tracing to that. A question though, the PRV that sits at the end of the rail, how do I know if that one has popped? Any DTC's? On the other hand even if it has, it shouldn't leak should it? My highly sensitive leak detection system (HSLDS) was tissue paper wrapped around each joint and held tight with zip ties. For shorter rides it didn't show anything. Will install it again before next longer ride. |
