75/90 in the diffs ?
for the differentials the owners manual recommends 85/90 and many owners use 80/90. I just wondered if it was OK to use an EP 75/90 GL4/5 such as Castrol Syntrax (which also goes in the transfer box). The main reason I'm asking is that the pinion seal has a tendancy to leak and would the slightly thinner semi synth 75/90 tempt fate in this regard ?
Or maybe its best to use a good old fashioned mineral EP80/90? I don't know but its my next job on the truck and I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks

The Castrol EPX is what should be used in the Defender diffs. The Syntrax Longlife is used in the Defender T-Box, but is also used in the D3/RRS diffs in place of the SAF-X0 that was originally specified.

It's all about additives now. Rolling Eyes

So would I be mad to just put straight forward EP90 gear oil in Diffs and transfer box ?

It would not matter as long it is GL-5 (for diffs). GL-4 is good enough for the Tbox. Puma 110" SW

Just checked the can, It's Carlube EP90 API GL-5.

So I guess I'm alright with that.

Just on the issue I find ATF gives smoother changes than MTF94 in my R380 box, doesn't seem to be any excess filings or anything at changes (do it every 12k miles), I presume it's not having an adverse effect on the box.
