Drop plate for a series what do I need
Hello

My series has a normal towbar with a plate behind it.

I would like to fit a drop plate so I can add maybe a Sankey hook also as my defender.

I have a spare bit in the picture, the lower bolts look in the correct place but the top are not?

Anyone who has fitted a drop plate to a series what have you fitted.

Thanks

Just to add this is what I would like to add.

So I could have a removable normal towbar and my Sankey towbar.

For a series LR you need Bradley Dixon Bate DB200673. This fits anything from an 80" onwards up to the introduction of the 110 (i.e., anything with a PTO hole) and appears still to be listed as a BDB part.

The correct version looks like this. I'm sorry to say that I cannot immediately find one for sale anywhere.

It almost certainly won't fit without extensive modification. The eBay listing includes the dimensions of the mounting holes to fit the fixed part to the vehicle so I would suggest some careful measuring will give you your answer.

The Series version has two pairs of 5/8" bolts at the bottom, two of which pass through the crossmember and two through a bracket bolted under the crossmember (the bracket would be easy to make) and, depending on the vertical centres, the item you list may fit these. At the top however there are two 3/8" bolts which pass through the crossmember and unless you can drill the bracket for these you'll have something of a problem. You might be able to modify the bracket, but it is hard to know without offering it up to the vehicle.

The drop plate in this link shows the arrangement of mounting holes for the original adjustable drop plate:

https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/508412-s...icles.html

I note that although the original pattern is no longer manufactured and no longer available there are several vendors selling adjustable drop plates for Series III vehicles, and if it fits an SIII it will fit any series (except 80" SI). For example:

https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/da2129-h...rport.html

https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-RTC7042BPLW

It's not clear to me how these fit to the crossmember unless the bracket to bolt under the crossmember is present (and none of the vendors illustrate it). They are probably a better starting point than the eBay one and at least if it doesn't fit as advertised you should be able to return it.
