For use on pay & play sites and when I'm volunteering with my local 4x4 Response group. Keeping my 235/85/16 KO2s for otherwise daily use.

I haven't had a chance to try them out in anger yet but will be volunteering at CarFest next week so who knows? Weather, (un)fortunately, is looking surprisingly sunny/overcast and not so much rainy. 2003 90 TD5 Hardtop

You ever have a garage make you feel like a melon by pointing out something bleedingly obvious?

My steering wheel has been wobbling like crazy around the high-30mph+ range, and getting worse as I go faster. Thinking Paddock Spares didn’t do a good job at balancing them (they came with weights fitted), I got myself booked in at a local garage for balancing - just to be sure.

Shortly after they drove my Landy into the garage, the customer service guy comes and asks me to come to the Landy… (uh oh). Turns out I fitted the steel wheel nuts the wrong way around - taper out rather than in, which would’ve seated them into the hole of the wheel, therefore not causing wheel wobble. 🤦‍♂️ I feel like such an eejit!

I’m not a total newbie when it comes to working on cars. I’ve swapped an engine and replaced the head in my classic Mini, replaced various mechanical bits of the Landy such as front and rear diff, CVs, props and half shafts, underbody steering components etc… but I’ve never had steel wheels before so it didn’t really click that I had to fit the nuts with the taper into the hole… just like alloy ones. 2003 90 TD5 Hardtop

If it makes you feel any better i had two rear tires fitted to my BMW 330D, few weeks later i'm on the motorway doing 140KM/h hear a bang and the left rear wheel takes off into orbit. was a fun time

Holy shishkebab! I can’t even begin to comprehend how scary that would’ve been!

I’ve forgotten to do wheel nuts up on the Mini before and a rear wheel overtook me… that was embarrassing! Happened at maybe 20mph though so not as scary in comparison. 2003 90 TD5 Hardtop
