Like I said above, if you have an adjustable tow ball on a slider plate take off the tow ball and bracket. Leave your slider plate on. I get no clunks with tow ball removed. A couple of seconds will refit it if needed- it is held in place by a pin and clip type arrangement.
I noticed there is movement between the slider plate and tow ball bracket, whereas there is none on my 2008 model. It will not take you long to try this and find out if it has any bearing on your problem. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

No I have grub screws in mine which keeps it tight and rattle free Wink

Strange about the donking noise though Confused I don't notice it when I turn the radio on Whistle
