Maxxis MT761 - fantastic tyre and far far cheaper than equivalent bfg. I had 265.

As posted elsewhere today

Quote:

BFG tyres have established a good reputation, however new tyres and compounds will they have the same longevity etc?

We have two 110's and run them on BFG M/T 255/85/16. Summer and winter, on road and offroad. Yes we are happy with them. We get about 60,000 miles out of them before we scrap them with 3-5 mm of tread left. Yes we could get more miles out of them, but for off road use they are getting like slicks.

On the Disco we have BFG A/T 235/65/16 and they have about 50,000 miles on them and are no where near worn out yet. Mainly road use.

It all depends what you want from your tyres.

Remember things like turning circles are controlled by things like adjustment of steering lock bolts, overall size of tyres, width of tyres and offset of the rims.

btw, the compound on bfg at and mt have changed - there are as yet no reports on longevity but they ARE softer.

If they are a softer compound Mike surely that would make them more of a winter tyre?

Softer compounds would wear faster on dry roads/higher temperatures etc but would be better in lower temperatures as they would remain more flexible at temperatures below 7C .

So would that make the BFG M + S tyre more of a winter tyre?

Yes...

New pattern muds, wear quicker, but are easily as good as the AT's in the wet/ice/snow. Much much much better than the old style.

So the softer compound gets the Thumbs Up From me

I have just got 5 of them from Andy (AJS) so definitely worth giving him a try. Nick

No problem with 265/75x16 on a 90. Andy.
