Remap. Alive vs BAS
Both Alive and BAS seem to be the big names in remapping. I live a good 2.5hours + away from both theses places so their remote tools seem an interesting option. I have IRB developments much nearer, but they seem much more expensive than both.

The BAS remote tool comes in at £775. The Alive Atric tool looks a whole lot fancier and more modern (not that it will affect the end result) but costs £495.

Anyone used the Atric tool from Alive?

Also, Alive “in shop” tune is £395 - does this include dyno before and after?

Is there any benefit of “in shop” tuning?

Not after anything too hectic. Don’t want to go to stage 2 with intercoolers etc. Just a bit more grunt, possible fuel economy boost and less low speed judder.

I had the IRB 140bhp remap on my 2.4 Puma, Land Rover specialists for remapping and in Birmingham as you already mention.

£450 and they can manipulate it to where you want the extra torque….

How long ago was that? Their website looks much more. Might give them a ring.

I can only speak for BAS, their customer service is supreme. Pete couldn’t be more helpful, be it with support over weekend or opening up shop if you need something in a hurry. I have their 175hp map without the inter cooler. This was after Pete’s advice that because I don’t tow I didn’t need to fork out buying an intercooler off him. I would suggest giving them all a ring and see what you like the sound of.

Just 5 weeks ago, it still gives you the same cost if you shop on their website

To be honest you can’t go wrong with any of the three you’ve mentioned.

Pete Bell at BAS, nice bloke, knows what he’s doing! Good products.

Gary Wood at Alive (who I’ve used and currently have the Attached if unit) really nice bloke, but excellent customer service and has always provided a hat I’ve asked for and tweaked things to suit. Even more so no I have the Atric unit as I live 500 miles away!

Yeah an Baughan at IRB, very knowledgeable man, what he doesn’t know isn’t worth knowing in my opinion. Can be difficult to get a hold of, but he is a very very busy man. Best to email him.

I’ve dealt with all three for various bits from tuning to spare parts! 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html

if you do venture down to IRB let me know and I'll drop in and make you a coffee.
I've not seen Ian in ages so it would be an excuse to say hello to the both of you.

and I need to get him to sort a few jobs Mr. Green

ps. I've got the 410 IRB - have done for the last circa 7 years / 60k miles. It's about the only bit of the car thats been faultless and as has been mentioned on here numerous times I've got excellent mpg to boot. Thumbs Up

^^^ what Roy said.

All great tuners.

I had a 90 with Alive map and a 110 with BAS map at the same time, each slightly different, each worked well for their relevant applications.

Ian produces great products to, he did some work on a td5 for me going back a while.

Sorry - prob not much help. Cheers

You’ve all been a great help. Long and short is that all are decent. Basically for me to choose on price and convenience.

Will do. I’m a bit busy this coming week, then I have my double din conversion to do. Got all the parts now, just need some wire to extend the switches.

Then it’s on to remap.
