Temp Needle Gremlin, Anyone know why?

So noticed today when I started the defender the temp needle has suddenly decided to re position itself?? It does appear to be still working as when at normal running temp the needle moves to just past the handbrake symbol. Anyone any idea why this has happened? Do i just need to pop the needle off and refit?
