United Kingdom 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Santorini Black
Loss of Power- Entering Limp Mode

Purchased a defender recently and was driving it home. Was going along the motor way and suddenly lost all input from the throttle. Car slowed down and wasn’t doing over about 20mph. Pulled off the motorway and let the car idle and it shut off on me twice. Managed to get the car back home with the loss of power happening twice. No engine management lights come on or anything. Car taken to garage and getting fault code which can be seen below. Any idea?

hello

P1250-71-XX: The status byte 71 indicates the SCV has seized resulting in a loss of fuel rail pressure control; this is normally due to sticky residue or fine particle contamination from the fuel. Inspect the fuel quality and if needed clean and flush the low pressure fuel system. Once the fuel system is clear of contamination the SCV must be replaced and if the issue was severe the PRV may be replaced.

VCV on fuel pump possibly, also worth checking turbo actuator moves freely despite no logged DTC mentioned regards turbo.

A failed VCV can just kill the engine, and as mentioned by Blackwolf on here before, any water in fuel can kill the VCV, and that can simply be from a contaminated fuel source.

VCV causes Rev hunting on idle, in particular when idling.
Reduced fuel economy, reduced performance and especially notable down on power in 6th gear and upper Rev range 5th gear.
Eventually it’ll start cutting out, usually at low revs, I.e. at a junction. Rolling Eyes

But if you find in 6th gear you are often having to drop a gear, in higher gears and you aren’t towing anything heavy then that’s a sign.
Colder and or wet weather often brings these things on, and we have had both.

Just some ideas but considering the VCV overly expensive approx £50 I’d go for that, and you don’t need a learn process done on it either. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
