Is this only a problem with the factory-fitted eyes or aftermarket as well, e.g., from the likes of PowerfulUK ? Current vehicle: 2020 Defender 110S
Gone: Defender 90 HT 200Tdi, Discovery Sport, Freelander 2

Mine rusted on my P400 but were replaced under warranty - understand this is not an option anymore as LR are refusing to replace FOC Shocked Rolling Eyes Shocked Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

They will be replacing mine under warranty on Monday. Here's a pre-owned '23 on the showroom floor:

It looks like mine did when it was new. It doesn't look coated, maybe just phosphated.

This is a '24 on the. showroom floor. It definitely looks coated:

This is one of my replacements. It looks more like the '24 than the '23.

JLR, if in doubt, 'delete' it.

Can't do that with my rusty steel wheels !!

I took Japseroony's post to mean warranty is no longer an option, not tow hooks are no longer an option.

Mine aren't coated, they're just painted. I would think coating would be a bad idea for a tow hook as it would easily be damaged if you actually used them.

Yep I bet coating will fail quickly under intended use. We don’t use ours in anger more for dog tethers. I was thinking of printing some red caps for them on short tethers so they don’t get lost. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Ok, just to be clear, I consider paint a coating as opposed to phosphating which is generally a pre-treatment. I also believe a good powder coating would be more durable than paint.

After almost 3 years I can assure you, nothing will prevent the tow hooks.
Don't worry about them, just respray ( each year) after they are used for what they are mentioned to.

Really my least worry of the New Defender.. No Mud flaps for my 90.!

I get your thinking but it’s damn annoying to see coatings fail on a car less the 3 months old. My Land Rovers get well used and I readily accept wear and tear but this sort of thing winds me up. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Don’t look underneath then!

This was mine after a few months of winter salt.
