Not my G4
After attending the Castlewood 4x4 show, a friend from the G4 owners club gave me a lift to his house up in Richmond, North Yorkshire. It was in his lovey Range Rover Sport which is fairy new so the journey was quiet, uneventful and rather relaxing… unlike my wife’s journey home in the G4 which was hot and noisy!

This rambling is leading somewhere, a confession. I’ve done it again… a 90 has joined the fleet. I went to look at aforementioned friends Range Rover Sport G4 TDV8 but that wasn’t the itch to scratch and my wife said no. However, I knew he was buying a new 90 so the old one was scheduled to be rehomed.

It’s a 2009 2.4 tdci in Corris grey with a roof sprayed Santorini black. It’s got some nice bits already like the winch, rock sliders, a loadspace drawer, optimil hinges, wildbear suspension and some ex moor trim leather seats.
There’s area that need attention but we like a project and hopefully it’ll keep you all mildly entertained.

So, some pics of it now and I’ll try to remember to document its journey.

Looks good, the accessories are actually worth quite a lot in their own right so that’s a positive and a good buy in my opinion. Wink Very Happy

With the diff pinion seal leak, is that the front or the rear? Hope you don’t mind me asking.
Only, sometimes they can be worn elliptical and cause a leak like that, and the seal and pinion then needs replacing.

My reason for mentioning this, was I had this happen before, but found the leak came back.
The cause was the nearest Prop UJ, needed replacing as one of the bearing cups, roller bearings had gone.
So that caused an uneven load on the pinion via the prop, and that then caused the other issues.
You’d have thought that’d be checked, but it wasn’t, so the UJ’s were at fault causing that.

So might be worth checking that, especially the UJ nearest the leak, and that grease nipples are present as well.
Only, if it is a UJ, and you replace the pinion and seal, it will leak again due to that.
To add to the fun, they can be quite difficult to find the play in the UJ’s in situ, but you can normally tell.

You probably know a lot about these things anyway, but worth bearing in mind as I’ve seen that be an issue first hand so that might be worth checking as well.

Looks a good buy anyway. Mr. Green _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___

Just a few! The bar is for work lights, I’ll take it off as a rack and ladder are going on. 2009 90 commercial.

The front is leaking worse than the rear so I’ll replace both and check the UJ’s too. 2009 90 commercial.

Thanks! I like the stance the wheels give it but combined with the suspension and 285 tyres, it’s a bit lumpy. I’ve already got a friend enquiring about them for his Range Rover Classic!

I fancy some sawtooths and Goodyear MTR or Duratracs for it 2009 90 commercial.

Yes I imagine they take some getting used to - but they are nice.

Sawtooth would look great 👍

This week, the 90 has been a commuting tool over the Lakeland fells and it’s done the job really well and quite economically for a Defner. The dry weather we had allowed me to clean up the rear crossmember.
Even managed to get a new mug to match it, no cup holders though Sad

Since buying the 90, I’ve looked at the large aux driving lamps and thought they’re just too big for its face. Despite the rain, decided to remedy it with some smaller osram lamps that still kick out some light.
