Security enhancement update at dealership - take both keys!
If anyone has received the letter from JLR about security enhancement updates that need to be done at the dealership, make sure you take both keys in - I didn't as no one informed me I needed to and so had to do another round trip to take the second key in......luckily had a courtesy car!!

It literally takes them 5 mins to do the update so why the need for a courtesy car? Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.

Because I had other things that they needed to look at - EV temporarily unavailable and the alarm going off when charging on timed charging.....so a courtesy car helped with the hour round trip to the dealership!

Ingenious that JLR marketing can spin this into a good new story. All looks a bit rushed after years of sitting on their hands. Let’s hope that the insurance companies share JLR’s optimism that the tide is turning.

I saw in an article, Bloomberg, that LR thefts are down by 40%.

Personally I hate percentages as they are used to cover up real world numbers. Even my wife a number of years ago went on a course on how to ‘make numbers work for you in business…..!

If insurance companies refuse to insure LR / RR in the theft hotspot of London and owners have offloaded them, no doubt at a loss, then yes of cause thefts are down. Hardly rocket science but not unexpected having worked directly with marketing people in the past, believe me the utter Censored they can spin in unbelievable……and they get off on it with a latte in one hand and a pointer for their flip chart in the other.

It doesn’t mean that what JLR has done has worked bearing in mind the recall to fix this problem only started in the last few weeks and Insurance companies will require at least three years data before they reduce premiums and even then don’t expect them to suddenly want to insure within London.

What may happen as a result is everyone’s worst nightmare, home invasion to get the keys, whether you are home or not.

This is why I believe (as I worked in the industry) that insurance companies won’t suddenly drop premiums without data to back up JLR words. JLR are trying to convince the public, not the insurance companies because they are losing sales hand over fist.

JLR’s own ‘insurance’, ie dedicated broker ( also aligned with a number of other car companies) is a fly by night joke. See one of my previous posts, I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole.

Does anybody know what this enhancement is? I’ve had mine done and there is nothing to see on the face of it. The wife took it in for me, so didn’t ask.

An update to the ECU and all keys to increase security. Don’t think Land Rover will tell you exactly what but it should stop the car being driven without a key present MY23 D250 Defender 110 X-Dynamic SE, Carpathian Grey, 7 Seat, Electric Towbar

Cars built post 2022 should already have the enhanced security, apparently. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Mine is 2023 23MY model and has the recall for the security update. Maybe 23.5 onwards is ok

I think the main changes are that the car cannot be driven without the key present MY23 D250 Defender 110 X-Dynamic SE, Carpathian Grey, 7 Seat, Electric Towbar

Does anyone know what will happen to earlier vehicles?

I have a 2017 D5… will this be covered by this issue?

I had seen that, but since the D5 is still a current model, I was wondering if anything had been said about the MY2017 vehicles.

Also, what about the Jaguar vehicles? They use the same system, but nothing seems to have been said about them.

I have written to JLR CRC, and they just said... "you should contact one of our official dealers"
