Occasional Battery Drain
I have a TD5 110 and it seems to randomly drain the battery overnight.

It could be alright for months at a time and then just out of the blue I come out some morning I come out and completely flat.

I tried tracing it through using a multimeter on the battery positive lead and pulling each fuse to see if there is a drain on one particular item - no luck.

It seems to just drain the battery and then if I jump it it'll be OK, just an intermittant problem.

Could a relay act up this way ? Or any other suggestions, I'm heading off on a trip in a month so would like to solve the problem before this.

you are right you could have a sticky relay do you have heated seats ?
rear screen?or front screen?

There's a heated rear screen. Could this be it ?

If the glow plug relay was sticking should the pilot light illuminate on the dash ?

Assuming you have electric windows check the contacts and cables and switches. Also check your main earth strap and overall have a good look at the battery and its connections/cables.

It could be a sticking brake switch on the master cylinder.

Thanks for all the input so far, I'll have a try of these this evening.

Can the likes of the brake light switch flatten the battery even when the ignition is off ?

I think I might have found the problem (not sure).

If I leave the radio on when I stop it seems to drain the battery.

The radio seems to switch off when I turn off the key all right though.

When I tried it by leaving the radio on the battery flattened, could this be coincidental ?

It's a single disk CD player type.

A radio draining a battery overnight?

Say 16 hours and typical 68 Amphr battery taken down to say 1/3 DOD would mean your radio is drawing about 3 amps per hour.

Seems to me to be rather a arge current draw for a radio which is nominally off

Possible I suppose if your battery is on the way out, but I think I would carry on looking for other reasons.

Kinda thought as much but just wasn't sure, thanks for the pointers.

Removed the relay for the rear window heater yesterday, so I'll see how that goes for a while.

Which relay is for the glow plugs ?

Is it the small relay in the ECU compartment ?

I removed one of the relays under the seat, which appears to be causing the drain.

The relay is AMR 3773

After doing this the following fault codes showed up:

10-6 MIL Lamp drive open load - LOGGED
10-7 Glowplug Lamp Drive Open - LOGGED.

Does this mean anything to anyone ?

I'm guessing that is the glow plug relay from the fault codes. Try a new relay in there and see if it solves the problem. John
