2010 59k 2.4 90 coolant question.
Would appreciate some thoughts.

When I bought the vehicle it didn't have a centre in the thernostate and ran cold unless pushed on long hill climbs.

I fitted a stat 4 years ago when I bought it.

Ran for 7mths or so and then it blew head gasket after a prolonged, 3.5hr run at motorway speeds. fixed that and been running well since. Have done 10k total in it, approx 9k since head change.

Fitted a scan gauge over the summer as one came up on here. Monitoring the engine temps on day to day driving its comparable to my other 2.4, sits around 75 to 85degrees and does nearly 30mpg on a tank scanguage and actual fill readings..

On a long run at 60/70mph it sits at 87deg min to 93deg over 3hr run.

The other thing to note was for first hour on motorway i sat at 70 with instant mpg showing mid to high 20s.

After an hour this changed to instant mpg showing 18 to 22mpg at reduced speed of 60/65mph

The heater is too hot to use on anything other than cold settin g when on motorway.

Seems a little hot to me when above 60mph My 110 towing on same route sits at 75 to 85deg at 60mph.

Dash gauge just sits at horizontal.

The way it drives I believe jts been mapped but don't know by who or what map.

So thoughts on why does it sit so hot when above 60mph. Its a 90, two rear seats, hannibal roof rack and nothing in it other than me.

Rad working correctly, had new water pump prior to head gasket change. Drives well, doesn't use oil or coolant, pulls like a train, just hot. Std intercooler.

It pulls well to over motorway limits.

I have some thoughts but would be keen to see what people come back with. Cheers

I do not think it runs too hot. Kind of normal to me. My 110" 2.4 with std thermostat runs sometimes around 93-95C during summer (above 30C) at steady 100 km/h. It goes up to around 100C on long uphill. MPG decrease considerably when the roof rack is on. Puma 110" SW

Any thoughts on what? Running temperature? Not unusual for temp to vary a little on load max would be around 110 deg but by that time unless exceptionally warm weather or hard labour, there is probably something wrong.
