Help. I'm confused. Again.
I've ordered an Alive remap so I desoldered the speed unlimiter wiring from behind the instruments and resoldered everything back good as new (using heatshrink of course). My beauty started and drove fine... and then I realised I couldn't turn on the radio (it was working immediately before). Okay, so German radio is pretty crap anyway but then I realised the interior lights were dead too After panicking about what damage I could have done to the instruments (???) I checked the fuses and the 10A radio one had blown. Changed it and all works again... FOR NOW Does anyone have a clue what I might have done (is the radio/lighting controlled by the instruments?) and is it likely to happen again? Or is it just another Halloween trick to scare me... Spooky Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

You need to check what the fuses actually control, quite a few have dual use. I was connecting into the radio harness on mine, removed the fuse for safety. What I forgot was the instrument lights fuse. That blew and I lost instrument lights plus something else, can't remember what now, that was totally unconnected to instrument lights. Add the fact that the owners manual and the diagrams on the fuse panels don't match, on mine at least, and you could be in for hours of endless fun. I disconnect the battery now especially as I am never 100% sure what fuse controls what - thanks LR Bob |

You got me thinking - perhaps I touched a couple of "wrong" wires together when I was resoldering the original connections - now I think of it, one of them must have been permanent live I wasn't expecting any problems with the instruments BUT if the radio/lights share connections, I'm bloody lucky the speedo still works I often wonder what kind of lunatic designed the Defender wiring Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. I just remembered what else went when I blew the instrument lights - the trip meter Land Rover wiring is a black art - always vi on the side of caution is my motto now Bob |
