Oil leak in sump area
Morning,
Crawling underneath to check intercooler hoses for another issue, i noticed a reasonable oil leak at the front of the sump.

Is this the sump gasket? However, as oil rarely goes forward, maybe something else.

I was just about to do an oil change so cant do that if the sump needs dropping.

The yellow circle seems to be a forming drip.

Also should there be something in the open hold? yellow arrow

Yes it looks like the silicon gasket "failed" and the oil is not coming from the bellhousing. If you are able to remove the sump without deforming the mating face, you can re use it. Puma 110" SW

I would not reuse the sump pan, they are very thin metal and suffer corrosion.
My advice is to get a new one ( with notch to avoid damage by front prop) paint with chassis paint. Fit and then coat with chassis wax, I.e Bilt hamber dynax UB and it should last well.

Ps there is a laser tool that helps getting the sump off. Laser 5026.

Well its good news that it looks like its the sump gasket, new one is a good call, dont think they are too expensive.

Is this a common failure? I only ask as i appear to have positive crank pressure, undiagnosed, so am due to check injector seals, could this lead to such a failure? ie should i get that sorted before i change this?

IMO too much blow-by will go through the crankshaft seals. I have not seen many oil sumps leaking. Puma 110" SW
