It’s a personal choice, however, I live in a rural area with a fair few touring caravan sites around, the access to these sites (even the caravan club sites) is often down very narrow country lanes with few passing places, I have witnessed several near misses with the larger width caravans even though the width is only six inches more, with the touring car drivers having to drive flat against hedgerows and having to fold back there touring mirrors to allow cars to pass.  Click image to enlarge It’s quite a different experience for relatively little extra width…..seems to have far greater effect on the ‘suck’ you get from Artics passing as well as much more limited visibility Whilst I have no issue with our choice (and we are likely to have for quite some time yet having been bought new) given the choice I think I would stick with a std width van next time (if it happens?) as long as we can get the right layout to suit Also as above we do find research is required for some routes and we judge or change sites to suit - having said that we have just completed a near 700miles return trip complete with van to have a weeks break combined with a visit to @Zagato Click image to enlarge |

Also for those with ‘proper’ 90’s then this is not what I would chose as the main tow car and more commonly use my LWB T5 Transporter…..far better and more stable, suspect a classic 110 / 130 is more the ‘right’ choice if keeping it LR

8 FOOT WIDE,,

Ah I'm mad for a caravan and I'm jealous of all these twin axles you guys have they look gorgeous but I'm in Ireland and there's a certain ethnic group also like them and I've been told not to buy one as you will get refused from a lot of campsites
