Rear door struts
Since changing the back door to after market one, the door didnt come with the catch on the bottom sliding door stay as you can guess, on a slope the door closes over Sad

What are the options for door struts ?
for example, looking on
https://www.4x4overlander.com/product/defe...-pre-2002/

Not sure if this fits top or bottom of the door

What are thoughts on door struts? good, bag, ugly ? 1999 Defender TD5 110

I fitted a gas strut, albeit was more of a homemade solution, using a gas spring from machinery covers. The one thing I hated is that it goes full speed to the end. Ok if I am using the door, but to a new user, the door used to fling open with a sudden stop.
The link you provided says

allows the door to open slowly and stop gently

So that is good. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Judging by the brackets, looks like it fits at the bottom. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I have the Naka rear door V2 strut if you want photos. It does open the door with the Safari Equip wheel carrier and 285/75/16 wheel on and it does hold the door open on a slope. The latter bit is what I wanted the most.

Only down side is the closing is heavier than normal.

EDIT: Actually I have to take the door trim off anyway to get the wheel carrier off in order to refurb it, so can get good pics if wanted.

I fitted the Naka gas strut https://www.mudstuff.co.uk/collections/nak...-gas-strut

Very happy with it. It has a soft open so the door does not come to a sudden stop when fully open. The strut is strong enough to hold the door open on a steep slope. Really easy to fit.

I fitted one of these and it was simple enough to install. One bracket replaces the current bracket mounted inside the tub, the other end fits behind the door card, and from memory needed two holes drilling in the door frame. Sorry no pics though.

Works a treat, although I would say be careful with anyone who is either small, or doesnt know its fitted, as once its unlatched its opening. Its flicked more than one child off the rear step!

Once installed the door card fits over the top and you barely notice its there.

They also do a V3 version which mounts at the top of the door but isnt as discrete. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

A different approach if you, like me, don't like the force needed to close the door:

Basically like 'storm hooks' for old-fashioned windows Smile
