Faulty Ignition Switch
Hola one and all, been a while.

I think my ignition switch is on its way out. Every now and then a jump/click before firing, sometimes nothing at all, mostly normal. But what has happened in the last few days is the heater controls/radio/fag lighter not working when the switch is in position two/three. They all work when on, then turn off immediately I go to position three and then on fire-up, allow the key to return to potion two.

I'm hoping that this is just the switch and not the barrel. If this is the case, is it just a straight-up Lucas replacemernt?

Thanks in advance

Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Sounds like your ignition switch is kaputt. Change out for a new one and all will be well. Happened to me a few times already. Now always have a spare ignition switch handy. A basic precision screwdriver set will also help with removal and installation of the new ignition switch.

As I have ham hands, I remove everything and the key barrel to make things easier on myself. Not too much of a bother really unless you have the break away security bolts then it may be a bit more of a chore.

Thanks hard charger. I noticed on searches that there are two main variants (when ignoring series models and petrol v diesel), a version for a steering wheel lock and one without. Is this a steering wheel lock that is in ADDITION to the standard turn off ignition and wheel locks in place, as per all cars and usual in a Puma, or is it exactly that, the normal wheel lock we all get when turning off the ignition? I can't tell from the images. Monsieur Le Grenadier

Martin. Much difference between the Lucas and Britpart versions? Lucas proving very hard to find here in France. Monsieur Le Grenadier

"Lucas" is just a sticker on pattern parts nowadays - it's banded about as "OEM" but it isn't now, the logo/name have been licenced out.

I think all there is on the market now is pattern (~£10-£15) and genuine (£65).  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
