Engine power delivery down when when A/C is on ?
2008 110 CSW Puma.
I feel the power on tap is reduced with A/C on when outside temp is say 35°C or above. I can hear the viscous fan doing its thing, which is expected, as well as the A/C electric fan also trying to keep up. I do need to shift gears at higher RPM than usual to keep up with traffic. Never went into limp mode yet though.

Switching the A/C off restores normal power though.
A/C on in colder weather is not a problem either.

Is it just me or what do you all experience?

I don't notice much/any difference in power with AC on, including in very hot weather. I can hear pump and fan coming on and off, but that's about it. Unlike my daily driver, it's little 1.0 engine is notcably weaker when the AC is running. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I'd guess an aircon compressor could be sapping 5-15bhp.

But as a rule you'd be hard pressed to really tell from the drivers seat. Is the vehicle standard or mapped? Have you ever had it on a dyno and seen what sort of whp it is making?

yes, it has a BAS remap (with upgraded intercooler and hoses).
No dyno as per say. Just a butt dyno feeling Laughing
By the way, had the A/C re gassed before summer, they took 455g out and put 600g back in, so this is not the pb.
Seems the Landy wants to kangaroo sometimes at low revs which it didn't do during winter.

Me too, just as you describe, unmodified 2.4 90.
If I'm in stop-start traffic it becomes a bit harder to pull away smoothly too.
Always been like it, so assumed normal - I always switch it off if going up steep hills or needing to get off the line quickly.
Same in my previous v8 50th too, small but noticeable drop in power with ac on, I think it's just the nature of the thing.

This has been my experience aswell (standard 2.4 D90).
As soon as the temperatures rise above 20-25C and AC is on the lowered power is very noticable. And it makes more noise too, as the engine fan also engages. Turn the AC off all back to normal. Below cca. 20C or so ambient temp the engine fan doesnt engage and it is much quiter, so you can actually hear the compressor engage/disengage. Never had this issue on any other car so been wondering if it is okay.
My AC has been serviced/regassed, is blowing cold air, but it stayed the same. At some point I plan to replace the condenser as it is corroded and some fins started to fall out so will see if that changes anything.

Updating my own thread.

During our 3 weeks trip in Spain in August, with temperature often in the 35°C and above, my brain finally kicked in Embarassed I switched the selector to have the internal cabin air recirculated, instead of contantly ingesting hot air from outside. Cooling the same air in a closed circuit is obviously more efficient, and adds less load on the engine after a while once it has started to cool down.

Oh well, there is still a drop in the engine power available, but totally acceptable I would say.

Smile
Never noticed a power drop with AC on with the 2.2 puma.
I do though with the 100bhp Diesel C3 Citroen, but just a little.
Once had a rental Twingo and you could use the AC switch to brake it down to a halt Laughing
