I did mine DIY. I have some pics on my rebuild thread, but only of the brush down and PVA sealant stage I think. When it actually came to sticking on the lining it required three of us; was a bit fraught; and there was no time or patience to use a camera.

I'm 'OK' with the finished result, and it's stayed put for 4, 5 or maybe more years. It's a bit rough around the edges, particularly on the "legs" around the alpine light windows.

I think the fabric I bought had a one-way stretch, if I was doing it again I'd see if I could get a 2-way stretch.

We had to use a heat gun (gently!) to get it to fit into the sun visor recesses in the front panel.

We did use staples, but maybe only because I've got a pretty good staple gun already.

Like I say, a bit rough, but you have to be looking for it, and I don't notice myself anymore. It's a near-30 year old vehicle and it's good enough for that. Donald

So peeps wanted photo's so here goes:

Cleaned up and primed panel with fabric laid over to size.

Then fold back half

Then apply some glue (spray contact adhesive to both surfaces (don't overdo the amount you cover at once as once it touches it is properly stuck, repositionable it is not).

Lay fabric over and press down (this is 4 way stretch carpet so lay over the high spots 1st and then press into recesses). Bit by bit 9" or so at a time until it looks like this.

Then do the other side of the same panel.

Then flip it over to sort the edges, more adhesive and then some 5mm staples for good measure.

Keep going on all three panels until your house looks like this (assuming 110)

Then refit into defender with new fir trees (the originals were a bit brittle after 28 years).

Pretty pleased, there are a couple of testimonies to the "not repositionable" on the rear most panel but they are quite small and barely visible.

I know it isn't authentic to use carpet but the thought of the foam backing disintegrating again and the rumours that it is very hard to do with the foam backed vinyl as well as cost swayed me.

It is a very different place to sit now as it won't bop me on the head when the windows are open Rolling with laughter 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

It might be a result of what I used to do it but it really wasn't as hard as I was expecting.

So more tinkering and the rear finisher is done and in, made in two parts to make the template easier (and to go through my bandsaw) 6mm furniture grade ply as the backing (my original was hacked about by previous owner to fit speakers Big Cry )

I may replace the window surrounds at some point to get rid of the cut outs there as well. Just need to remember where I put the second grab handle Big Cry This is the first time any of this bit has been in in nearly 10 years.
