United Kingdom 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Barolo Black
Dead key fob
Spare key fob is completely dead. It’s the first time I’ve tried it since buying so not sure if it ever worked. Previous owner said something about it being a service fob???? But it looks like the other one which works fine.

(2007 puma csw)

I’ve tried changing the battery. Also the 4x lock button and 1x unlock button sequence someone suggested.

Inside it all looks pretty pristine.

Any thoughts?

Could well have a dry solder joint; anything obvious on the joints?

Try swapping the batteries from the main key fob to the spare and vice versa in case either the new battery is a dud or is a cheap version that doesn’t have enough amperage to work the fob.
Duracell batteries are fine …the ones sold by Timpsons are not .

It may not have been coded to the 10AS alarm module, you will need a Nanocom to check and if needed code.

When I got my 2011 Defender it only came with one key and fob. I contacted Land Rover who had one sent to a maindealer as it had to be matched to the vehicle. Don't know how they did it but they needed the vehicle for a short time while they were doing it. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

That’s what I was pointing out spudfan, each remote needs to be coded to the 10AS or ALM alarm module. The OP will have a 10AS from factory. To do this you need dealer diagnostic equipment or a Nanocom. It’s a very simple procedure.

So if the spare remote had not been coded or for some reason it’s coding had been corrupted then you can check / rectify with a Nanocom to save the cost of the dealer doing it. Hopefully a forum member close by with a Nanocom can help the OP out.

Of course it could be a faulty remote, in which case the recoding won’t work and points to a remote issue.

If it transpires you have a remote issue have a look at remotekey site for options. https://www.remotekey.co.uk/category/land-rover/defender/

+1 for remote key.

You could just get one of those and do away with the separate alarm fob and have it built into the key.

I got one 6 months ago and it's great. It will program/code itself when you first set it up so there's no dependency on your current fob. TD5 hardtop to Puma inspired Poptop - my build thread

If you can’t find someone local to help you out for free with a Nanocom then it will likely be cheaper to get a new fob or fob plus key provided and coded by remotekey than getting LR to run diagnostics and code your old fob, and that’s if it is not a fault with the fob.
