Tyre recommendations please
I know it's been a good while since I last posted.
Life has been hectic blah blah...

I may need new tyres soon as have noticed the early signs of cracks on a couple. I'm currently running Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx in 235/85r16 (bought in 2016 so probably getting to the end of their design life anyway).

With the price these have become and my now more road focussed driving I am loathed to pay the new price that they want for them now.

So any one like to chime in with suitable All Terrain type tyres that are decent but don't need a second mortgage (the first one is bad enough at the moment.

Also is there anything to be gained by going to a slightly different size (I don't want to be losing to much / if any steering lock). 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

I like the Maxxis Wormdrive AT's. Have them on two vehicles at the moment and cant really fault them tbh.

Maxxis also do a milder AT called a Bravo that looks quite nice, but not available in all sizes.

What suspension & rims have you got?

I've actually got 255/70R16's on a 90 which work quite well. Slightly shorter than a 235, so a little easier to get in and out. But still tall enough to do green laning with ease (about the same size as a 31.10.50R15).

You probably need 8 inch wide rims for a wider tyre. But anything 255/70, 265/70, 255/75, 265/75 will work.

I'm a big fan of the General Grabber AT3. I've had it and it's AT2 predecessor on various Land Rovers and have always been pleased with their performance. They're quiet, grip well in the wet and are also winter rated and work brilliantly in snow and ice.

My personal preference would be an AT with the 3 peaks symbol.

The AT's are 3 peaks rated, C for fuel, E for wet (slightly worrying) and 75dB.
They seem to get reasonable reviews but mainly on pick up trucks and shoguns. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

I had the AT3s and the KO2's on my TD5, the AT3's were quieter and better in the wet. I prefered the KO2's for field work though.

Goodyear wrangler Duratrac tyres performed and lasted very well. They are an aggressive AT and I had them on my 110 for ten years and 60k miles, only just changed them for BFG 255/85r16 MT’s.

I had 265/75 r 16’s , which do reduce your turning circle, but they make a 235/85r16 as well.

The trouble is they are very hard to get hold of in the uk now.

I’d recommend Falken Wildpeak AT. Mine are good in the wet, quiet on the road and have the 3 peaks symbol.

I recently swapped to Maxxis AT’s and am very impressed on the road butter than the Scorpions that they replaced. Buy 4 and get a decent guarantee thrown in.

Another positive vote for the Davanti Terratouras. Has had them for a few years now and great on and off the road. I'd not pay the premium for branded tires now.

I've not long swapped to these from BF Goodridge AT KO2... Very impressed so far and about £90 per corner cheaper. Definitely quieter, stop well and good grip when towing the horse box etc.

+1 for the Davanti Terratouras.

They're very good, cheap as chips, D for fuel, C for wet and 74dB.
£120 per corner from Camskill 👍👍👍
