https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuschwanstein_Castle Spend some time in Austria near Innsbruck, then drive home via France. The valley from the edge of Munich to Innsbruck is filled with great places. If you decide this is worth a look, I can give you a couple of names of places to visit. Great food and drink in this area too. Yes you have to pay for the toll roads but their motorways are generally a lot quieter than the ones through Germany and Belgium. |

If you're going to Mohnesee (I take it to see the dam) then the Sorpe dam (10 miles SW) is close by. And also Kassel is very close to the Eder dam at Waldeck. If you're heading to Arnhem for a look at the bridge take the time and head a couple of miles east to the Airborne museum at Oosterbeek. |

Yes staying next to the Mohnesse for a couple of nights... might include sorpe in my drive to Colditz castle....and I'm camping near the museum at Osterbeek.... cheers great Ideas

Another dambuster link near your route is the burial place of Wing Cmdr Guy Gibson at Steenbergen which is just south of Rotterdam.

If you're into quirky forms of transport, the Wuppertal Schwebebahn is a different way to spend a few hours, not far from Dortmund or Essen.
It's an overhead suspension railway, originally built to serve an industrial valley. In parts it runs above the streets but also above the river. Getting a seat close behind the driver was almost like flying down the line. We rode it end to end, then back to the start, getting off in Elberfeld for lunch and a look around.
