Rubbish at electrics, reverse light upgrade, soldering ... ?
Hi all,

Not going to hide it - I'm rubbish at electrics and have never tried any work on a car before. I've purchased the reverse light upgrade from PowerfulUK and have watched Simon's instruction video. Couple of questions though :

1. If car is off, is that enough for me not to get electrocuted when connecting the electric wires, per the video ?
2. Do I need to solder the wires, as Simon does, or can I just twist them together and cover with electrical insulation tape ?

Thanks,

Harty

I have these installed.

1. You'll be fine with the car off.
2. I soldered mine and covered them with electrical tape. I know some others just twisted their wires. I've not had issues over the past 9 months, pressure wash withstanding.

Pulling apart from the panels do take a bit of courage and effort. 22MY Defender 110 D300 S in Pangea Green and Contrast White Roof

"Just twisting wires together" is appallingly bad practice and a recipe for trouble later on. No-one in their right mind would recommend it.

Better using something like this, no experience required.

What Blackwolf said. Additionally, You’ve just spent a fortune on a new motor, don’t cheap out doing a pretty basic job. If you aren’t confident doing electrical work then pay an hours labour to someone that is. If you lived a bit nearer I’d have told you to pop round!

Messing up wiring on a car should be crime, premeditated in fact if you plan to sell the car in 3 years.

Not seen these before but they look a really good idea. I’ll be giving these a try.
