Double Din head unit with Wireless Apple Carplay in a Td5
Looking for recommendations for a wireless apple car play double din head unit for my Td5, I already have the MUD surround.
At the moment I've found the JVC KW-785DBW and Kenwood DMX7722DABS.

Anyone had any experience of these particularly in a Td5? I know the JVC is a shallow fitting, unsure on the Kenwood.

Cheers

I've been looking at the Pioneer SPH-DA360DAB for wireless carplay, might be worth adding to your list?

I've checked the specs of the Kenwood unit and it is only 75mm deep so definitely a shallow body unit. You might find the Kenwood and JVC are identical models - JVC Kenwood are one-and-the-same now.

You will definitely appreciate the shallow body units, with the double DIN fascia there is not a lot of room behind for all the wiring and gubbins.

I’ve just bought the Pioneer SPH-DA160DAB (older model but still 2021 from memory)..

Was quite a bit cheaper than the newer 360DAB and came with a free reverse camera.

Going to install on Friday (hopefully) - will let you know how I get on.

Got the Kenwood Headunit, where have others picked up a reverse light feed? Is there one in the dash or just run a wire to the rear?
Also where abouts for the handbrake switch?

Cheers

Depending on the age of vehicle to save all the hassle of finding the correct handbrake wire etc you could do this.

As for reversing wire, I attached a piggy back to the reverse light positive and connected that way for my camera.

Good luck

You don't need to worry about that hand brake switch. On mine I crimped a small ring terminal to the light green wire (if I remember correctly) and attached the ring to the body of the stereo unit. All the hand brake feed is looking for is an earth and it's a safety thing to stop you accessing certain functions and features without being stationary with the hand brake on. By attaching that wire to the body of the unit you are providing a permanent earth. Just unscrew one of the screws on the body, pop the ring in between and retighten.

For the reversing light feed you could take straight from the gearbox but what I did was combine the reversing camera feed to the unit with the reversing light power. In simple terms the reversing camera needs a 12v supply and an earth and the headunit is looking for a 12v signal to show the camera screen.

I ran the camera loom (red and black wires plus video cord) through the roof from head unit to camera location at the rear and used the switched 12v from the head unit to power the camera on the red wire. But at the camera end of the loom I cut the earth (black wire) and attached the camera end of the cut wire to the vehicle body with a ring terminal. So that satisfied the earth requirement for the camera. I then took a 12v from the reversing light and connected that to the now cut black wire. At the head unit I then connected the black wire in the camera loom to the camera signal wire (purple/white), therefore the camera will operate as intended and the wiring for the reversing light signal is massively simplified because you've used just one loom that came with the camera. I can draw a basic wiring diagram if you like?

I know it’s now a TD5 but I’ve just changed my Raptor console over for a double din unit and fitted the Kenwood 7722 dabs. I took a feed off the wire from the gearbox for the reverse camera.
Here is a pic for reference
