To Bowler or not to Bowler
Bowler fans,

For those following other loosely tied threads, I am in the process of sourcing a 110DC for long term loving. Obivously wheels are of great importance. I confess to loving 18" Bowlers, but at almost triple the price of a nice 16" Sawtooth, Blindo, Twisted etc Shocked , I wonder why I should? They are listed as being 'lightweight' which might add a few pennies to the price, and evidently have motorsport credentials, but in real terms does anything warrant my spending an extra £600 for a set, when those shekels could be spent on a long list (rather than single item) of other equally unneccessary upgrades.

BTW, before anyone suggests it, I do not like the 16" variants. Proportions are all wrong, despite the more appealing price. Big Cry Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Holy Cow that was fast. Almost as fast as Bowler. Rolling with laughter

In all seriousness, do they feel different? Lighter etc? Monsieur Le Grenadier

With you on the 18" look. Bowlers do look good, even close up, but so do JE Engineering's 18" offerings. I quite like the (relatively) unmodified look and opted for 18" Boosts (also cheaper). Like so many issues it's each to their own.

Absolutely. Just fettled my wish list and decided I could do without dashes etc. Money-no-object, or no other mods to buy (such as remap) they'd be on in a flash. But Mrs Grenadier is keeping a watchful eye so the budget is (relatively) fixed. A fcouple of hundred quid, maybe. 500, probably. But £1200? Seriously? They (Bowler) know they're on to a winner, they look fab. Have Blindos currently and love them. What I love aboyt the 18" Bowler is the amount of wheel and the fine nature of the splines. For their size they're a delicate wheel.... Shocked . The blindo, even with the slpines, has a lot more visual mass in the centre....Now, if only they did an 18" Blindo... Monsieur Le Grenadier

Quite right. On 18", see my answer to Tack above.

Never been a fan of Boosts and indeed every DC I am looking at (given I am sourcing an XS ideally) are coming with Boosts. (Yours if you want them!! Rolling with laughter ). But I will check out JE's 18".

What do we make of these new 18"? Look at the price as well. They're obviously not nearly as light as the Bowler, but there's something about them.....

See, it's because I've got Bowlers!! Wink

I'm new to Defenders and mine had them from the start, so I've never driven anything else, so can't compare. Purely from an aesthetic point of view, I think they just look stunning. It's partly what made me fall for the car I ended up buying (a 90XS Demonstrator from a LR dealer, which had them fitted as an extra). There are several great looking wheels out there, but in my opinion, the Bowler 18" is by far the most gorgeous. I later found out what heritage the company has, so naturally that makes them even more of great wheel!

What is the wheel load rating on these 18" Bowler alloys? I really like them, but are they as tough as 16" Blindo/Dakar alloys 1,5 tonne?? Or even Wolf steel wheels 2.2tonne?? A boost alloy is 750kg(ish). Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

I have to disagree.

Several months ago I drove to Bowler with the intention of purchasing a set of 18" wheels with tyres (amongst other bits). Whilst browsing the various vehicles in the car park I changed my mind. I actually preferred the 16's. They were much more in keeping with the vehicle.

Just my opinion. I was all set on 18's until seeing the 16's. Mine will be going on next week sometime after collecting my new Defender Mr. Green
