My Series III
Rather than post individual updates on new threads, thought it best I keep it together. Hope that's ok.

So I started looking for a classic car a few years ago that would fit 4 people in, cheap to insure and run (no tax) handy if I could do some tinkering. Started with looking at MGB GT's then Morris Minors.. Then around 2 years ago I swapped a sensible Merc estate for my Puma 110. Love it, don't miss the auto everything.

Then it got be thinking a series..... ticks all the boxes Thumbs Up

Series 1 for me too pricey
Series 2 More than I wanted to pay and creeping up
Series 2a / 3 Probably more where I wanted to be price wise Smile (although prices everywhere)

I was lucky (fate) I don't know, on the way to our local farm store I spotted one, Locally owned car, only driven between 300 and 900 miles a year. MOT and not only 4 seats but 7 Very Happy

Test drive done.... did not scare me off.

Then up on the ramps at the garage I used a large screw driver and stuck it all over it, poking the chassis, everywhere I could. Many Many pictures later and sending PM's to members on here suggesting it's all ok, standard bits that are rusting. When the screw driver went right through the passenger sill my heart stopped Shocked.

So I mulled it over, Wife was well up for it and kept asking if I had bought it.... The night before I made 'the call' I could not sleep thinking am I doing the right thing...

Anyway, price agreed and I was a series owner Smile Deal Done Thumbs Up

This was now Mine..... Meet Hobgoblin.. I like the beer and the number plate looks like that?

I will admit I did not know what model it was really other than a 7 seater SIII (with the special roof) turns out its a safari roof, 7 seater station wagon 2 1/4 petrol with Overdrive..

Since doing the deal and finding out all the different suppliers offering parts for every bit of these cars, its a real eye opener what you can change / still get hold of.

So I had it home briefly but jobs such at the hole in the footwell and boot floor I felt need doing.

OOh and its had a new Petrol tank as the old one leaked.

So the list of parts so far I have for the garage to fit..

Petrol Tank
Passenger footwell
Side bulhead bits?
boot floor
Boot floor supports

Then while it is being done (slowly as I said I'm in no rush...) I've been doing what I can...

600 tyres currently so some newer steels with 7.50 tyres and then sanded / painted Retro limestone.

Then searching the web I spotted one with limestone light surrounds rather than colour coded, so ebay second hand pair sanded, primed then painted.

Over the past month or so I've also bought a fair few new bits ready for its return, nothings expensive on its own.....

So in the garage :-

New bumper
Mats
Gear sticks
Mirrors
gear gaiters

I've also bought 1 tin of limestone (already used on doing the wheels up and surrounds) and 3 tins of Marine blue as I'm temped to 'give it a go' roll paint it.

Great looking truck , they become a real obsession you will be thinking about what needs doing to it all the time , then disappearing for a tinker which may last for hours . Thumbs Up
Have fun .

Not much update...

Still at garage and I've been 'trying' to do electrics on my sankey...

Passenger foot-well is welded and he's starting on the boot next so that's good.

Opened I box I had delivered on Friday of some bits.

Rear step for sprogs to get in and out
New Rear handles
Wiper arms and one wiper? (don't know why I only ordered one)

So I'm slowly building up a garage of stuff to fit Smile

Not much to report, I've been searching for an extra Rim for ages and just could not find one nearby, So quite happy this came up with a Michelin 7.50 tyres so make a great spare. Should be dropped off Sunday and will sand and paint it to match the others Smile

Then I'm slowly gathering parts if I convert to a soft top, I have a tail gate and now these...

If anyone has any other bits to convert to soft top please get in touch I quite like the idea of the cat flap rear door for the roof so then if I re fit i can keep the tail gate on.

Will stop hopefully at the garage tomorrow and see if there is any update... Thumbs Up

Good work!
I'd like an older Series as a partner for my 110, ideally from my birth year (1980). Either that or a nice S2 like the one I had as a teenager and wish I'd never sold! Instagram: l90andy

^ I would have liked a 1973 one but narrows your choice if you want your Birth year Smile so its close enough... Very Happy

However being 1975 its tax free Thumbs Up and £100 a year insurance with home start and breakdown included.
