Confusing rear axle

Hi all, I am doing some work on a rear Salisbury axle. However, when I went to fit the stub axles it looks like they are rover type.

I'm not quite sure what is going on here. It's a 2000 110.

This sals has a slot for ABS, I didn't know they came like that. Looking at the stub axles that were on it they also look like the rover type, they are shorter than the salsbury ones and have the abs slot.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

Yes the 2000 to 2002 TD5's had salisbury axles that came with the option of ABS and TC.

I had a look at one about a year ago now. Surprised me at the time too.

I didn't know that. Do they all come with the ABS hole during them years?

2002 Defender 110 Td5 DCPU Keswick Green

I ran into the same issue when replacing my rear stub axles. You are right, salisbury axles fitted for ABS use the Rover type stub axle rather than the salisbury ones.

Do you think that is the original axle? Didnt realise ABS was an option pre 2002.

Yes IIRC the 110 was a 2001 French, so LHD, CSW. I was surprised about it having ABS but not so surprised that the ABS module was absolutely stuffed. Sounded like a tin of bolts been shaken about.

I didn't know they used Rover stub axles though.

I'm pretty sure it's the original axle. There is only one owner on this car and he's not had much work done to it.

I had an 1999 before with ABS but I don't recall which stub axle it had. I'll try to dig up some old pictures. My current 1999 has the standard Salisbury axle.

It's strange the fitted some with ABS axles and some without. This 2000 has the ABS axle but no ABS.
