Defender PUMA 2008 havent started in 2 months !
Hello fellow Landy friends.

I have a problem with my Landy not wanting to start from time to time.

I have changed the fuel filter, vcv valve, cylinder head, EGR cooler and a lot of other things.

I read Blackwolf´s thread about the topic and saw that he had changed the battery and starter motor, so I have changed the battery and will have change the starter motor in 14 days.

It has stood still for 2 months and only runs when we have started it with another car and then it runs. But after sitting idle for 10 minutes it won't start. But today, on a sunny day, it started immediately when my wife wanted to test. When I got home she told me that she had started it and gone for a drive.

Of course I took the key and tried. It started immediately - WTF...

We would like to use it for our summer holiday, but as it is now, I dare not bet on it.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Defender 110 Puma 2.4 tdci

While behind the wheel unlock and lock it with the fob. Then try again. Puma 110" SW

When mine was doing an intermittent no start, I swapped and tightened all of the spade connections on the relays under the right hand seat, changed the ignition switch, changed the battery then the starter motor.

The sequence was chosen as the cheapest and easiest first, ending with the starter which is a bit of a fiddly job - but its been superb since and no I'm still not sure which bit was faulty but I shouldn't have to mess with those parts for a few more years!

Could it be in Instrument cluster issue, to check, when it does not start remove the instrument cluster, remove the connector and while connector is disconnected from the cluster bridge pins 3 and 4 and then start vehicle. If it starts it’s the instrument cluster dry joint issue.

Something easy to test and cost nothing in parts.

Yeah, she knows where you‘re hiding the keys.

What is exactly the instrument cluster. I'm not a mechanic so it's nothing I know anything about! Defender 110 Puma 2.4 tdci

The instrument cluster is above the steering wheel and houses the speedometer, Rev counter, temperature and fuel gauges etc. It’s fixed to the dash with a few large screws.

See these links for details on removing the connector and bridging pins 3 and 4.
