CB And Antenna Mount
Hi folks, I have just ordered a Defender 90 for delivery in July and need to have a CB for a planned trip in Sept.

So, the CB I have has a cigarette socket on it so is easily mountable and powered in the car but where are you guys mounting the antenna please?

I have a mag mount but am unsure of this on the roof?

Cheers in advance Thumbs Up Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

I have a Tuff Ant mount for the Antenna, utilises the existing passenger side bonnet hinge bolts,
the cable is run through the large rubber boot/grommet for the steering column..

The GME radio system is connected to the USB /12v fuse point via a piggy bank fuse holder/clip, used
fuse 2 on ours in the passenger glove box fuse compartment

No drilling, just the hole punched through the rubber grommet for the antenna coax cable..

I believe “Uncle Ray” (correction) on the D3 forum has been making some mounts for L663 that slide into the roof rails and bolt onto one of them Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

This should give you some ideas as well

http://www.4x4cb.com/public/menu.cfm?Categ...e=Products

I use the PSM 1 Mount, using either the short 'rubber' arial when we were green landing as it is below the roof height and does not snag any low branchers as the wound whip versions do.

In the open such as Salisbury Plain or when marshalling then i use a 4 foot whip for the greater range.

If you know that you will be around lots of people it is best to secure the whip so not to accidently hit anyone.

Hope this helps

A mag mount won't stick to the Defender's roof.

+1 for Ray's mount:

I don't know whether you remember the aerial on mine when we were in Wales Russell but I bought a SIRIO TURBO 5000 without really looking at the length Embarassed At a smidge under 2 metres it is rather long but it does get great reception over a distance Laughing

Hi Ian

I have a 1.55m one from 4x4CB that fits the mag mount I bought but was thinking of a short rubber one as we will not be that far from the lead car at any time.

I would take both and use accordingly but markb110 mentioned a shorter one was what got me thinking Thumbs Up Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

You just reminded me when i took part in the Scorpion Racing Novice Winch Challenge events.

In the first event i caught the springer arial in a low branches and basically straightened it out... Laughing

I then went for a Sirio thinking that range would be better.....it was until i snapped it green laning.

That's when i decided to go for the short rubber arial as they are good for 1.5 miles so perfect in a convoy then swap over to the longer springer when in open areas or the need to be in communication for driving days or when we would marshal at the Army Navigation events.

markb110, I also straightened out a springer whilst off road green driving and it kinked the roof!

What is the short rubber one you use please? Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

An SWR meter is also worth getting as they don't cost much and it will help you check the grounding of your set before any damage occurs.

The link below will answer any questions.

I don't leave it permanently attached, only to periodically test. i also run a ground wire from the arial mount to the chassis so not to rely on the aluminium body.

Hope this helps, and have fun.
