200tdi to M57
Well i thought it was time to try this conversion and see whats involved.

There are a lot of grey areas when you start looking for info on doing the work, its not even easy to find info on the variants of m57 out there let along all the codes that go with them.

anyway nothing ventured!

200tdi with disco lump and R380 currently fitted.

M57 184bhp version going in on LT82 puma box and 1.2 t box.

most seem to go for an auto and if this works out ok i may take that plunge on the 130 but on our training vehicle a manual seemed a good way to go. went with the LR box over the BMW one as well why not, its stock then back from clutch.

gathered some parts together and found an engine and started learning! its a slow progress as time on the project it limited.

Nice project! Did you change the engine mounts on the chassis or fabricated brackets to suit? 1985 127 V8 Build Thread

She's in and running. Very pleased with results. Loads of torque and incredibly smooth. Def worth the effort. ( despite slight engine issue with over fuelling, burning oil, leaking injector or similar on cold Start up)

Remove std filter, adaptor from maf housing to 3" pipe, filter in that pipework. Jist needs to be big with good air flow. Can run as she is for a while. Cheers

@ib73 you could have 2 options, fit the 535D rocker cover as this used a remote say airbox or MW Machines is after creating a side panel for the air box so you can fit to a snorkel.

think the adaptor i bought was £30, plus some 3" pipe and a filter housing if not filter on end of pipework. depends how much you want to spend. Cheers

Interesting this James. Couple of questions:

What variant of engine was it? Range rover?

How come you swapped the R380 out?

Does the puma box sit in the standard puma position for transfer box mounting etc? THen was it just a case of welding in the engine mounts?

Thanks

Great to see it went nice and smooth for you, the engine conversion we did in a rover metro, the info was very questionable.

Its alot of £££ 5o d9. Engine was £325, downpipe £400, clutch, adaptor £1k. Puma gearbox, t box and props £1k. Ecu bits loom, service items, prob £1k engine mts £500 plus pipework and pas parts. So alot.

R380 apparantly wont take the grunt for long. fitted puma gbox and tbox in std place with puma props worked fwd from there. Its a 185 version Jon. Cheers
