If you are keeping the old ECU and the new engine is the same spec 2.4 as the old one then the Nanocom should be able to do a pump and pilot injector learn and all should work ok.
If thinking on using the new Engine ECU (PCM) then It gets more complex. Worth a read https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic26726.html?highlight=ecu The Nanocom has improved since the topic above in 2014 with latest release 1.36 and beta 1.37, so pairing 10AS to engine ECU (PCM) should , and I say should, be ok and is an additional thing you need to do. You will also need to load the correct CCF to ensure VIN etc data is also programmed and the conversation between PCM, IPAC and ABS all works ok. So have a chat with BBS (Nanocom) to see if above is within current Nanocom capabilities. However if wanting to use new ECU given you have gone to the expense of a new engine and new ECU I would advocate contacting IRB , site sponsor, and BAS ( bell auto services) to get their views and a price to do this for you, as getting it wrong will cause a lot of problems. |

Me Again, ok bit confused so here goes:
old engine oil pump went (sad face) this had a been remmaped new engine 26k miles came with engine gearbox transfer box and ecu injectors etc ( sort of plug and play) i was told to get codes off of new engine injectors and program these into old cpu.....and bingo off she blows ( is this not right ????) i struggling to understand all the codes etc that these replies have ( can i please have my 200tdi back pleaseeeeee. just updating the nanocom to the latest filmware as i type. my plan was to plug nanocom into new engine with all cables connected, so i can read values off of new injectors. store these put old ecu back in and reprogram old ecu to these codes ??? i gather its abit more involved  both engines are 2.4 tdci??? series 2a 1966

Install new engine, connect all cables up. Keep existing engine ECU .
Look at each injector, on the top of each one you will have a 16 digit code. Injector 1 is at the front of the engine, injector 4 is at the back ( bulk head) end of the engine. Write down the code for each of the four injectors. Here is a great article on replacing injectors, which you are not doing, but has pics to show you where the injector code is written on each injector. https://www.landrovermonthly.co.uk/article...injectors/ Connect Nanocom, select defender, select Puma, select 2.4, move to bottom of menu options using right hand green arrow, select injector grades, select injector grades. You now have a screen where you can enter the 16 digit injector code for each injector in turn. Then select the write option and this will update your old ECU with the new engine injector codes. Once done you press x to exit the screen and can then select the pilot correction option. The Nanocom screens may be updated with the latest software release but the process is the same. |

The "new" ECU-PCM-BOX at the engine bay will not work with your current instrument cluster. Just keep your original ECU-PCM-BOX. If for some reason you need to fit the doonors ECU then you will need basically a new instrument cluster and get it sync at the dealer or so. AFAIK. Puma 110" SW

As Ianh said, the injector codes need to be manually entered in the Nanocom to be registered in the ECU. Although the following explains what to do using a BAS tool instead of a Nanocom, this can give you some guidance : https://bellautoservices.co.uk/bas2rrc-hel...ogramming/
Also note that once the injectors are coded in the ECU « You are advised first to complete 1st the High pressure pump reset, and 2nd Pilot correction reset ». The Nanocom should be able to do that for you as well, you will need to drive it a bit to take the engine to temp before doing the pump reset and pilot correction so that these complete properly. Dear all,
wonder if you can advice, recently changed engine and recoded injectors to ecu all starts ok but I get error invalid can response 7f when I try to pilot learning....any ideas FYI tried this on old engine and the fault was there also...... series 2a 1966 defender 90 1991 discovery 3 2005 discovery 2 2003 defender puma 110 2008 defender puma ex scottish power 2.4 2011 |

What software version have you on the Nanocom ? Current version is 1.36 and there is a beta 1.37
I think beta 1.37 may help you, noting I’m assuming you are running engine at operating temperature when running procedure ? just updates to 1.37 warmed engine and this code came up " failed to initiate correct routine (error 22) " god dammit series 2a 1966

Had a similar problem when new injectors were fitted to my 2.4tdci.
Got it sorted by - 01. Engine temp as high as possible without over heating. 02. High AMBIENT air temp. - space heater in workshop. 03. No mods to standard ECU programme - no tuning or EGR delete etc. just the bog standard map. The indi who did it (with me helping by looking over his shoulder) used a Nanocom and his first step was to ensure that the standard map was installed.
