Intermittent Speedo? What to check?
Hi, I've got an issue with my Speedo and possibly my fuel and temp guage. When driving my Speedo will drop to 0 and then occasionally come back to life and work normally, then drop to 0 again. 90% of the time it sits at 0 or jumps to around 10mph then drops. I also think my fuel guage stops reading accurately, but doesn't drop to empty. My temp guage never gets to hot.

The speed sensor on the gearbox has been replaced. My next plan is to check the shared earth in the instrument wiring loom and maybe the red ECU plug?

Is there any other obvious bits that may be causing these issues? I'm thinking it's a dodgy earth but open to ideas?

If your problem exists in the dash then I'd be checking the instrument plugs first. Whip the binnacle off and check for water ingress and/or corroded connections.

Also suspect Earth Connections. When I got my Td5 the engine supposedly overheated instantly when I switched the AC on, or rather the gauge moved because of a feedback on the earth circuit.

On mine it was the Transducer on the gearbox.
Cleaned and refitted it and it's lasted for years.
Best/easiest access is from above via removal of centre seat/cubby box. 04' 90 Td5 CSW..

The earth for all this is under the bonnet on the bulkhead - white header plug with all the black wires beside the steering column and expansion tank.also earth on side of transfer box in front of mount, common after transfer box or clutch change to be loose or forgotten
