Replacement Steering Damper
After some advise, changing my rusty steering damper out and the replacement Old Man Emu is just to big to go into the fixing.

I’ve removed the surface rust that had built
up but is still too tight to get it in.

Other than heat up and try to widen slightly, not sure how I’ll do that, can anyone else suggest how to get it in?

Also can you drive without one on?

Very Happy A pricey fix but a much better end result is to fit the Gwyn Lewis Sumo bar kit

I had exactly the same problem with what looks like it may be the same yellow-painted make of damper. The metal insert of the bush was a millimetre or two too large. Turned out there was nothing wrong with the old one after all, but my plan had been to carefully grind down the insert. Wasn't confident in my skills to get a good finish, mind.

Yes you can drive without one, and you shouldn’t notice a massive difference if the rest of the steering system is ok, and especially if your old one is knackered.

I’m in Herts near Essex and if you want pop over and I will grind a few mm off the centre bush.

Had the same with OME steering damper. Just grind the metal insert and it will slot in the bracket. Should be a snug fit anyway as when tightening the bolt it should lock both faces of the bracket against the metal insert.
