Towbar Electrics Part Number Needed
Hi all,

I need to locate the bracket that is used / supplied with the Dixon Bate Slider tow bar on Defenders (similar to Zag's setup).

I've spoken to the dealer, looked on line and can't find what I need. From memory it slips between the tow bar bracket and the underside of the rear cross-member with a 90 deg bend to hold the socket just under the cross-member.

I have recently fitted the tow bar I bought new for my 07 Puma to the new one in place of the NAS step to give me flexibility to change height and type of hitch (ball to NATO) but can't locate the plate to mount the electrics.

Can anyone help?

Cheers,
John John

Thanks Martin - that looks exactly like the one but looks as though it would fit to the near-side of the cross-member not the off-side.

I've fired of a question to the seller to ask.

Cheers,
John. John

Currently twin - but I will be converting to a single 13 pin socket. How do you secure it inside the hole Tim? John

John, looking at the photos of the LR sliding tow bar kit (LR007221, 222, 223 for the various models), they are supplied with that bracket which does seem to go to the nearside.

Perhaps you need something fabricating for your needs?  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

A 13 pin would work Smile,, the cable , on the 7 pin at least, does go through the hole, then 3 stainless self tappers into the cross member,, California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Hmm, maybe my memory of the original is wrong. I've taken a chance on the ebay one anyway - the cables should reach.

Cheers John

Might try that when I convert from two sockets then - not sure about drilling the cross-member though Shocked John

Martin have you received my dosh yet?

John, the one in Martins link looks spot on as it would be put on the other way around than it is in the picture i.e. the top part of the right angle slips between the rear cross-member and tow bar support bracket from the back so you should have no problems with that Thumbs Up

Don't know if this pic will show it!

Yes just Thumbs Up

Also John if your looking at caravans it might be a good idea to get one suitable for an Alko hitch which most vans have nowadays despite them being a pain in the ass and the jury is still out on how effective they are. Quite a few people have converted their hitch back to the old style...you don't tend to get "wag" behind a Defender anyway, the hole of air punched through by the Defender could see the SS Enterprise pass through it as straight as a die Wink

They stick out a bit further as in the pic which is also useful for clearing the spare tyre a tad more but also has a higher neck for the Alko to fit OK! Lorryman has all the gen on this and some more pretty pictures

Hi Zag, can't make it out in your first pic - might be my screen. I'm fairly certain the ebay one will be fine.

My towball is the Dixon Bate combination like yours - should be fine for any caravan hitch, the one we've been looking at has a Winterhoff stabiliser hitch. John

Does this help, John? I've positioned mine to accept a 12S socket in the future.

There are two versions of the DB ball and pin hitch. One for Alko hitches and one that's not. The difference is in the length of the 'neck' that the ball sits on. Darren
